Concrete Leveling

HomeConcrete Leveling

Concrete leveling raises sunken or uneven slabs, such as driveways, sidewalks, patios, garage floors and pool decks, back to level. It is often faster and less expensive than tearing out and replacing the concrete, though it is not right for every slab.

Common signs a slab needs leveling

  • A driveway, walkway or patio that has sunk or tilted
  • Uneven joints that create trip hazards
  • Gaps between the slab and the house
  • Water pooling or draining toward the house

Common leveling methods

  • Mudjacking (slab jacking): a cement-based slurry is pumped under the slab to lift it.
  • Polyurethane foam lifting: lightweight foam is injected beneath the slab through small holes.
  • Replacement: when a slab is badly cracked or broken, replacing it may be the better choice.

Slabs often sink because soil washes out or settles beneath them, so a good contractor will also look at drainage so the problem does not return.

Questions to ask before you hire

  • Which method do you recommend for my slab, and why?
  • Will you fix the cause of the settling, such as drainage?
  • What warranty do you offer?
  • Can I see an itemized estimate?
